Berhampur: A superintending engineer in Public Works Department (PWD) here has been arrested by the vigilance wing for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
Bindo Kumar Padhi, superintending engineer (Roads and Building) in Berhampur was arrested and sent to jail custody after raids on his residence, office and other premises, a top vigilance officer informed.
An anti-corruption team led by Santanu Kumar Padhi, Vigilance Additional Superintendent of Police at Berhampur Division, conducted simultaneous raids on 12 difference places including Bindo Padhi’s quarter, office room, parental house, a market complex near the Ganjam block office, a farm house in Khallikote, a dairy farm and business establishment at Dimiria and the houses of his relatives.
The raids were conducted on charges of the accused allegedly accumulating assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During the raids, the accused engineer was found to be in possession of assets worth Rs 5, 12,97,963 including 26 number of plots including shop house purchased by the accused enginer in his name and in the name of his wife at Berhampur, Chatrapur, Khallikote and Bhubaneswar, under construction double storied building on pternal plot at Ganjam Bazar, 4 number of single storied AC sheet roof building, 4 number of small buillding, cow sheds, one Scorpio vehicle, gold and silver ornaments, deposits in different banks and hard cash.
The engineer has been sent to jail custody till March 18 by court of Special Judge, Berhampur.
Further, enquire is going on to unearth more assets and other substantial expenditure of the accused, said a vigilance official.
