Berhampur: As part of the initiatives to curb ragging at colleges, a special police team would be formed to visit and interact with the college students, informed Berhampur SP Dr. Saravana Vivek M.
To chalk out anti-ragging measures, a meeting was conducted between Berhampur Police and principals of various colleges of Berhampur at the SP Office here on Wednesday.
The Berhampur SP chaired the meeting, which was attended by 29 college principals and members of anti-ragging committees.
It is decided at that meeting that every college will have anti-ragging committee as per guidelines of Supreme Court. The committee will be proactive and meet frequently and their contact numbers will be available with the junior students.
The students will be informed on whom to report and how to report in case of any ragging. The anti-ragging committee will investigate any ragging if reported immediately.
If the ragging is found true, proportionate punishment will be meted out to the student after thorough investigation. If any criminal act is found during their investigation, principals should report it to the local police station immediately for further action.
