Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Friday named Dipali Das, daughter of late Naba Kisore Das, as its candidate for the ensuing by-election to the Jharsuguda Assembly constituency in Odisha.
“Dipali Das, D/O: Late Naba Kishor Das is the Biju Janata Dal candidate for Bye-elections to 07-Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency”, the BJD said in a statement.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the voting in the Jharsuguda Assembly seat will be held on May 10. The counting of votes will be done on May 13.
Formal notification for the bypoll will be issued on April 13 while candidates can file their nominations till April 20. Scrutiny of the papers will be done on the next day (April 21).
Candidates can withdraw their nomination papers up to April 24. The entire election process will be completed by May 15.
The by-poll has been necessitated following the death of BJD MLA Naba Kishore Das.
