Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Biju Janata Dal has retained the Tirtol Assembly seat in Jagatsinghpur district with massive victory in the by-election.
Riding high on the popularity of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and his people-oriented development works, the BJD has maintained its winning streak in Tirtol.
Bijay Shankar Das defeated his nearest rival BJP’s Rajkishore Behera by a margin of more than 40000 votes to retain the seat for the ruling party.
The Chief Minister-led party has polled 86186 votes after the completion of 27th and final rounds of counting of votes, as per reports from the ground.
The BJP secured 45890 votes and the Congress 28312 votes.
