Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal will kick off a Jan Jagran Campaign from August 16 to fight for the rights of elderly people, said BJD President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik on Monday.
The Jan Jagran Campaign will be held in every Panchayat of the State to highlight the failure of the BJP government.
In its poll manifesto, the BJP had promised to provide pension of Rs 3000 and Rs 3500 to the elderly, the disabled, widows and the destitute. However, in the Budget, the government has stated that only those above 80 years of age and person with 80% disability would get the enhanced pension. Even with a loan of Rs 45,000 crore, the BJP has not kept its poll promises, said the BJD supremo.
The BJP has betrayed the elderly pension beneficiaries and the people of the Odisha. Such deception has led to discontent among the people, Naveen said.
The BJD will come forward for the rights of the elderly. Every BJD worker and conscious citizen will get involved and aware the people about the BJP’s deception, he added.
