BJD to Raise Issues on Odisha’s Interests in Parliament

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal will raise several issues pertaining to the interests of the State in the upcoming winter session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.

The BJD will highlight ten major issues relating to the interest of Odisha in the Parliament, informed Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Sasmit Patra here on Sunday.

“There are many issues both National, State and Constituency based which would be placed in the upcoming Parliament Session”, the BJD MP said.

Some of the key issues to be raised by the BJD include:

* Increasing Banking and Telecommunication coverage in Odisha as well as expansion of National Highways in the State

* Introduction and passing of Women’s Reservation Bill

* Inclusion of atleast two tourist places of Odisha among the 17 identified Iconic Tourist Sites by Centre

* Starting of Bhubaneswar to Dubai direct international flight

* Recognition of Bali Jatra as National Maritime Heritage Festival

* Income Tax exemption for District Mineral Fund

* Polavaram project work to be stopped and reformulated as per Godavari Water Disputes Tribunal

* Rollback of CBSE fees hike

* Pending PDS subsidy payable to Odisha by Centre to be provided. Rs. 2123 crores (2017-18) and Rs. 1345 Crores (2018- September 2019) is pending with the Centre which it needs to transfer to Odisha

* Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Grameen), Contingency Fund amounting to Rs.202 crores and Rs. 818 crores towards 1st Tranche are pending and Centre must transfer to Odisha at the earliest.

* Inclusion of beneficiaries in Fani and non-Fani districts of Odisha in this scheme as well as activities of identification and geo-tagging are also matters which would be taken up.

“This is not an exhaustive list but provides only some primary issues”, the BJD MP said.

The winter session will end on December 13. It will have a total of 20 sittings.
