BJD Vehemently Opposes Centre’s Move to Privatization of Biju Patnaik International Airport

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has vehemently opposed the Centre’s move for the privatization of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA).

The BJD said that the Central government’s plan to privatize Biju Patnaik International Airport is condemnable.

The people of Odisha will oppose any proposal for privatization of BPIA. The BJD legislators will protest against the proposal in Parliament and Odisha Assembly, said BJD MLA Dibya Shankar Mishra.

If the Centre insists on its decision, it will surely face public wrath, the BJD leader said.

The BPIA has been providing service to millions of flyers and it is instrumental in attracting many industrialists and investors to the state, Mishra further stated in a press briefing.

Airport privatization will lead to monopoly in the sector. Any proposal for the privatization of BPIA is contrary to Odia Ashmita.

The people of Odisha will keenly observe whether the state government is opposing the proposal or not, Mishra said.

As many as 25 airports across India, including the Biju Patnaik International Airport have been earmarked for leasing out in between 2022 and 2025, informed the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in the Rajya Sabha.
