BJD Will Continue Its Fight for 33% Reservation for Women in Parliament and Legislative Assembly: Naveen

Bhubaneswar: Women empowerment is the main focus of Biju Janata Dal. The BJD will continue its fight for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Legislative Assembly, said Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik on Thursday.

While addressing the BJD’s state-level celebrations of International Women’s Day, Naveen said that our beloved leader Biju Babu had shown the new path for women empowerment not only in Odisha but also in whole country.

Today, Odisha has become a leading State in the field of women empowerment. We have increased the reservation for women in Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies from 33 per cent to 50 per cent, Naveen said.

The Biju Janata Dal will continue its fight for 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Legislative Assembly, he said.

He further said that the State Government has not stopped any benefits given to the people.

Coming down heavily on the Centre for its anti-women steps, the BJD President said that the Central Government has cut five kg from the rice of the poor people. Similarly, LPG prices have skyrocketed. Our mothers are suffering a lot due to rice cutting and LPG price hike, he said.

Naveen said, “Our women empowerment program has boosted the confidence of women. Their importance has increased in the decision making process. Mothers have made the Mission Shakti program a successful program. From SHG they have now started a new journey of becoming entrepreneurs”.

“I want our mothers to be empowered, successful and their skills become the identity of new Odisha”, he added.
