BJP Indulging In Violence To Create Fear Among Voters: BJD To SEC

Bhubaneswar: A Biju Janata Dal delegation today met the State Election Commission and submitted a memorandum against the electoral violence by BJP leaders and workers in Jagatsinghpur this morning just as the 2nd phase polling for Panchayat elections started. The delegation demanded strong and immediate action by SEC as well as increased security for the protection of the voters and citizens against the electoral violence unleashed by BJP in Odisha.

In the letter to the SEC, the BJD delegation wrote “As the second phase voting is on, BJP Odisha is unleashing a series of violence across the state. Today BJP leaders and workers committed poll violence and hooliganism in booth number 2 of Patsara Prakalpa Upper Primary School of Jagatsinghpur district. They forcibly took the voting box and threw it outside the polling booth. They threatened and abused the voters and the presiding officers present there. They are forcibly trying to induce the voters by dubious means and violating the Model Code of Conduct. Foreseeing defeat, BJP Odisha is resorting to violent crimes as also threatening police, intentionally spreading false information with a criminal intention and intimidating voters thereby violating the Model Code of Conduct laid down for the three tier Panchayat elections.

The BJP in fear of losing these elections, is unleashing a wave of violence against the BJD candidates, leaders and party cadre. Appropriate security measures be kindly provided to the BID candidates and the supporters to protect them from the murderous BIP’s wave of violence against the BJD in these elections. Adequate security steps may kindly be taken across the state for protection of lives of citizens, BJD supporters, police officials and others.
