Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation convened a significant corporation meeting today to highlight the BMC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and welfare.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Mayor Sulochana Das, witnessed the active participation of distinguished attendees, including the MLA of Jatani, Suresh Kumar Routray, BMC Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange, Additional Commissioners Laxmikanta Sethi, Subhendu Sahu, and Suryavanshi Mayur Vikash. Also present were the representative of MP Madan Mohan Pradhan, Central MLA’s representative Milan Kumar Routray, MLA’North’s representative Kunilata Maharana, Ekamra MLA’s representative Dasarathi Garabadu, along with all corporators and officials of line departments.
The corporation meeting emphasized BMC’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health, with a special focus on combating the recent outbreak of dengue within the BMC area. The diligent efforts of corporators, medical professionals, and the entire BMC team were highlighted during the meeting. To raise awareness, BMC has initiated “Dry Days” twice a week to educate citizens about eradicating potential mosquito breeding sites. Through rigorous field visits, BMC has successfully eliminated more than 5 thousand mosquito breeding sites. The “House-to-House” campaign actively involves engaging with residents, emphasizing the importance of eliminating stagnant water in unused containers and educating them about mosquito breeding areas.
Acknowledging the increase in the number of dengue cases, BMC has rapidly expanded medical facilities to cater to the growing patient population. The corporation meeting discussed the provision of specialized beds and blood sample tests at Chandrasekharpur, Dumduma, and Nayapalli Health Centers. Additionally, BMC called upon corporators to escalate the door-to-door campaign further.
The Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik’s initiative to distribute land ownership certificates to urban homeless individuals was highlighted during the meeting. This commendable effort aims to uplift the marginalized by ensuring access to land rights. The distribution ceremony is scheduled for the 28th of this month at Kalinga Stadium and will subsequently extend to three zones. A total of 51 thousand beneficiaries are anticipated to benefit from this initiative.
The meeting addressed queries from corporators regarding the status of pending beneficiaries, reaffirming that eligibility criteria would determine the distribution of benefits, adhering to government norms.
The Jatni MLA praised BMC’s commendable steps towards rain and dengue control. Additionally, he proposed the restoration of Gangua West Canal, a guest house near Lingaraj Temple, and the installation of separate toilets in the metropolitan area of Bhubaneswar.
Several decisions from previous meetings received unanimous approval in this session, highlighting BMC’s collaborative spirit and its dedication to the betterment of the community.
