Bhubaneswar: Odisha Health Director Bijay Mohapatra has said that both the Omicron and Delta variants are currently active in Odisha and therefore we cannot say that the threat is over for us. The sample surveys carried out have shown that 25 to 30 percent of the cases belong to the Delta variant. As the Delta variant is more severe than the Omicron variant, we should remain more cautious and do not take things lightly. Reacting on easing of restrictions from February, Mohapatra said, the decision will be taken taking into account the prevailing situation in the state. The situation is improving in the state and the positivity rate is also low.
The Health Director also said that the NeoCov Variant is found in birds only and there is no information on its transmission from birds to humans. We are waiting for any information from the international community on this.
