Braving Incessant Rain, Old Woman Walks 3 Km for Pension in Koraput Dist

Bhubaneswar: The hardships faced by elderly people in availing their pensions in Odisha appear to be unending.

A day after a 70-year disabled woman was forced to crawl nearly two kilometers to the local panchayat office in the Keonjhar district of to avail her old-age pension, a similar heart-wrenching incident emerged from Koraput district.

As per media reports, 65-year-old Sita Dami of Goudaguda village in Koraput district had braved the incessant rain and walked around three kilometers from her home to the nearest bank with the hope of getting pension. Soaked and navigating through numerous potholes, Dami reached the bank, only to find her efforts futile as she was turned away without her pension.

The repetition of incidents like this has raised concerns regarding the efficiency of the old-age pension distribution system of the State Government.

Meanwhile, the local administration has assured that appropriate measures would be implemented to ensure the elderly woman receives her pension at home, as per reports.

Earlier, a 70-year-old disabled woman crawling nearly two kilometers to the local panchayat office in the Keonjhar district to avail her old-age pension has sparked outrage on social media after a video of her painfully crawling went viral.
