Bhubaneswar: Keeping in mind the importance of raising awareness for childhood cancer and support the International Childhood Cancer Day, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited today organized a Cyclothon in collaboration with the Kriaa Foundation where several participants from all over Bhubaneswar participated.
Every year on February 15, International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is commemorated to raise awareness about the horror that this disease implies and how to cope with it. The day is a worldwide movement to promote awareness of paediatric cancer and to express solidarity for children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with cancer, as well as survivors and their families.
Leukemias, brain cancers, lymphomas, solid tumours such neuroblastoma, Wilms tumours, and bone tumours are the most prevalent forms of childhood malignancies. The day encourages a greater awareness and knowledge of difficulties and challenges related to paediatric cancer, as well as their consequences on children and adolescents with cancer, survivors, their families, and society as a whole. It also emphasises the need for more equitable and better treatment and care for all children with cancer, regardless of where they live.
Commenting on the occasion, BMC Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Singh said “Blood cancers, brain and kidney tumours, bone and eye cancers are all common childhood cancers.” Fever and headaches, as well as bone discomfort, lethargy, weight loss, and pallor, are all warning signs in children. BSCL has endorsed the International Childhood Cancer Day initiative to promote awareness and provide assistance to children with cancer and their families.”
