CM Naveen Approves 416 New Posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation

Bhubaneswar: With a view to enhance the capability of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation and to make it more efficient and effective, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved the creation of another 416 new posts at various levels for BMC.

According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is the largest autonomous body in the state and is responsible for further enhancing the identity of Bhubaneswar as the capital of Odisha as well as safeguarding the heritage of this historic city.

In view of the ever-increasing population, its responsibility to provide basic amenities to the public is steadily increasing. Keeping this in view, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned 416 additional posts for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation. The Chief Minister expressed hope that the Corporation will become more efficient and effective with this.

It is to be noted here that, while earlier there were 210 sanctioned posts in BMC, the creation of these additional 416 posts will increase the total number of sanctioned posts to 626.

Earlier there was one post of Additional Commissioner in the administrative department of the Corporation, now three more posts of Additional Commissioner have been created and the total number of posts has been increased to four. Similarly, 6 new posts of Zonal Commissioner have also been created. While earlier there were 3 posts of Deputy Commissioner, 13 new posts have been created and the total number of posts of Deputy Commissioner has been increased to 16. Along with this, there are already 4 posts of Sanitary Assistant Commissioner, while 9 more posts have been created making a total of 13 posts of Assistant Sanitary Commissioner.

Among the new posts, 11 new posts have been created in the finance department of the Corporation and 4 new posts have been created in the planning department. Other posts include seventeen new positions in the Engineering (Works) Department, 5 new posts in Sanitation (Engineering) Department, 20 new posts in Drainage Department, 2 in Mechanical Department, 1 in Legal Department, 2 in Public Relations Department, 7 in Beautification and Landscaping Department, 4 in Animal Welfare Department and 13 in Social Welfare Department. Also, one post in Disaster and Emergency Services Department, 19 in Enforcement Department, 93 in Clerkship Department and 187 posts in Ward Office Department have been created.

The Engineering (Works) Department already has 2 Civil Executive Officers which has been increased to six. Similarly, the number of Assistant Executive Officer posts has been increased from 7 to 13 and the number of Civil Junior Engineering posts has been increased from 17 to 24.

As sanitation (Engineering) is an important sector, 5 new posts have also been created in it. It includes one Executive Officer (Sanitation), one Additional Executive Officer (Sanitation) and 3 Junior Engineers (Sanitation). Similarly, 20 new posts have been created in the drainage department. It has one executive officer, 7 additional executive officers and 12 junior engineer posts.

As Ward Management is the most important area, 187 new posts have been created. Earlier there were 81 posts for Ward Management. Now the total number of posts has risen to 268. While there was no post of Ward Officer earlier, 67 new posts of Ward Officer have been created. Similarly, the number of posts of Ward Revenue Officer (Tax Collector) has increased to 67 from 50. While the current number of posts of Sanitary Inspector is 6, additional 61 new posts have been added. Similarly, the number of posts of Community Organiser has been increased from 25 to 67.
