New Delhi: At a time BJD women candidates’ successful ran in the parliamentary elections has already created a positive vibe in the national politics, a prominent woman Congress leader from Maharashtra showered her praises to BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his initiatives enabling women to represent in the highest forum of decision making in the country.
Expressing her views on
the landslide victory of BJD MP candidate Pramila Bisoyi, a grass
root-level worker, from Aska Lok Sabha seat from Odisha’s Ganjam
district, senior Congress leader Priya Dutt gave full credit to Naveen
Patnaik for recognizing the strength and potential of a common woman.
Even
though, the Women’s Reservation Bill is still pending in the
Parliament, but the BJD president’s move to field 33 per cent of women
candidates was hailed from various political parties across the country.
Of the seven women candidates fielded by Naveen, five emerged
victorious. Of them, 68-year-old Pramila Bisoi belonging to a humble
farmer family created history by winning the election by a margin of
more than two lakh votes.
“These are the truely empowered women
of India, if you look you can find them even in our hinterlands. Kudos
to Naveen Patnaik to recognize the strength and potential of a common
woman. She rose to the occasion and won…best wishes in parliament”,
Priya Dutt said in a Facebook post.
