Rourkela: The construction of Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium, one of the venues for the 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup, will be completed by the end of November, said Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra on Thursday.
The Chief Secretary along with Sports Secretary R Vineel Krishna and IDCO MD Bhupendra Singh Poonia visited the construction site of the stadium at BPUT campus and reviewed the progress of the work. They also reviewed the expansion work of Rourkela airport.
The Chief Secretary directed the officials to complete all the construction works of the hockey stadium and the airport by end of November 30.
The 2023 Men’s FIH Hockey World Cup will be organized in Rourkela along with Bhubaneswar in January next year. Around 20 matches will be played in Rourkela. Hence, direct charter flights will be operated from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela for the transportation convenience of the players. In view of this, the expansion work of the airport is going on in full swing, he said.
The top officials also reviewed the progress of other infra development and city beautification projects being undertaken in the steel city.
