Dubai: After a long wait, the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to begin in United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Saturday. Because of the raging coronavirus pandemic in India, the BCCI decided and got the permission to take the league to the UAE.
The IPL 2020 originally scheduled to begin on March 29 this year. The pandemic made the fans, players, franchises and organizers wait for almost six months.
Even though the event is being hosted outside the country, it has not dampened the excitement and talk around the big cricket tournament with fans happy to watch from their homes amid the global pandemic.
Defending champions Mumbai Indians will kickstart the season against Chennai Super Kings with a blockbuster opening match on Saturday.
In this season, a total of 60 matches will be played between 8 teams, and the finals will be held on November 10. Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, and Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah will be hosting the 56 league matches. The venues for the playoffs are yet to be decided.
