Bhubaneswar: When everyone is staying inside their homes in fear of getting infected with coronavirus, sanitation workers or safai karamcharis wake up early in morning and acting like soldiers for protection of others by keeping the city clean. Acknowledging their contributions and to ensure their safety and well-being, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in association with Bhubaneswar Round Table 53, a part of the Round Table organisation, on Wednesday distributed Fruit Juices and Mosquito Repellent Strips to these frontline workers of the Capital city.
The Civic Body has organised a special programme at the ‘I Love Bhubaneswar’ Selfie Point near Master Canteen Square in the city as part of its continued community service activities where over 200 sanitation workers were given one packet of Odomos Mosquito Repellent and two bottles (400 ml) of Dabur Real fruit juice each.
“As part of community service during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have provided fruit juice and mosquito repellent to BMC sanitation workers who are working at the frontline to keep the city and environment clean hygienic for the safety of people,” said Shri Akshat Saklani, Chairman, Bhubaneswar Round Table 53.
The sanitation workers who are tirelessly rendering their services to humanity by cleaning the city streets during the ongoing pandemic have expressed their happiness and satisfaction over the programme. “It makes us feel good when such programmes are being arranged by BMC and other organisations to honour and acknowledge contributions of sanitation workers. A word of appreciation from the public goes a long way,” said 30-year-old Kishore Naik, who begins his duty in Kharavel Nagar area of the city at break of dawn, ensuring that the roads are swept clean and kept litter-free.
Shri Ansuman Rath, Zonal Deputy Commissioner, South East Zone of BMC who was present on the occasion, thanked Bhubaneswar Round Table 53 for their continued efforts and noble gesture towards the good health and well-being of the sanitation workers.
“Sanitary workers have displayed exemplary commitment for work and rendering uninterrupted services for the safety of the citizens of Bhubaneswar during this COVID-19 pandemic. Hence, it should be our collective responsibility to ensure that these frontline workers stay safe, protected and live a decent life,” said Rath, who coordinated and supervised the entire event.
As many as 7800 pieces of 200ml Dabur Real juice and 111 packets of Odomos patches (24 pieces per packet) were distributed to the sanitation workers.
Notably, the BMC is conducting COVID tests and health check-up of its sanitation workers from time to time and providing training with the help of doctors, NGOs on safety. The training programme includes tips of social distancing, hand hygiene, wearing masks, gloves while carrying out their daily works.
