COVID-19 Lockdown: Subarnapur Admin Ropes in NGOs to Counsel Migrant Workers

Subarnapur: The Subarnapur district administration has roped in leading NGOs to provide counseling services to migrant workers in view of the lockdown to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the support of volunteers of ActionAid and RARE, the district administration is offering necessary counseling to the migrant workers from other districts and outside the State to relieve their fear and anxiety in the wake of ongoing lockdown, said Subarnapur Collector Monisha Banerjee.

“We want to dispel any apprehension among the migrant workers and reassure them that the situation is transient”, she said while adding that all possible supports will be provided to them.

As per sources, there are more than 650 migrant workers from other districts and states in Subarnapur.

The administration has made necessary arrangements to allay the inconvenience of migrant workers stranded in district due to the lockdown.

The volunteers of ActionAid and RARE are offering counseling to the migrant works on a range of issues relating to COVID-19 over phone and also visiting to their doorsteps.

Apart from this, the district administration has also set up temporary camps to provide food, shelters and other essential needs to migrant workers who are stranded due to the lockdown.

Earlier, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged all district collectors to extend necessary assistance to migrant workers from other States.
