Covid-19 Update: BeMC Seals Berhampur City

Berhampur: In the wake of spike in the Coronavirus cases in the Berhampur, the largest city in the Southern Odisha, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has decided to seal the city from tomorrow onwards till further order.

Speaking to media, BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore said, “Entry in Berhampur will be restricted. Only medical reason and those having rail and air tickets will be allowed to enter. No restriction on goods vehicle.”,

“Those who need to go outside Berhampur, passes can be obtained by dialing 100 within Ganjam and for travel outside Ganjam, the passes will be issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate (S.D.M) Berhampur.” he added.

There will be no restriction on the movement of personnel relating to emergency services as declared by Govt. of Odisha.

Berhampur SP, Pinak Mishra stressed on the strict enforcement of the guidelines and social distancing norms.

“Police forces have been ordered to made strict enforcement of the guidelines restricting people into Berhampur and vice-versa”, said Berhampur SP, Pinak Mishra.

“We will be extremely strict in enforcement related to mask violations and social distancing. Anyone found using bikes without reasons, the bikes will be seized. Anyone found without Masks will be fined. We are passing through crucial phase.”, Mishra added.

Appealing people to cooperate, both Rathore and Mishra said,” together we will tide over the crisis.”

All essential services will continue and remain functional. All the vending zones in MKCG road, Kamapalli, Gate Bazar, Haridakhandi and Giri market will remain closed. However, temporary markets will be opened.

Selling of non-veg items like fish, mutton, chicken will only be allowed by shops with permanent structure.

Operating Timing for Wholesale traders will be as follows;

A. Till 10.00 Am Potato, Onion and Banana wholesale business
B. From 11.00 Am to 4.00 Pm , All grocery and rest wholesaler
C. For medical related wholesale timing will be from 05.00 Am to 4.00 Pm

Only Following Shops will be Allowed to Open from 05.00 Am to 4.00 Pm

• Repairs shops of all electronic, household and commercial items including standalone items like carpenter, plumber. Electricians are allowed to remain open and provide home service. Consequently, shops selling materials for repair like spare parts, ply wood etc are allowed to remain open for the same duration of time. Counter sell of stand-alone electronic items like fridge, TV, Mobile Phones etc are not allowed.
• Shops providing construction materials and tools like cement, paint, hardware etc are allowed to open.
• Restaurants and eateries are allowed to do only home delivery till 11.00 Pm Counter sale is not permitted.
• Shops selling vegetables, fruits, grocery, medicine, agricultural products are allowed to open.
• Any construction activity being carried out by private establishment/ home owner can only be allowed with prior permission from BeMC given that they have their own labour camp.
• Shops providing material to Carpenters like ply wood, mirrors, glass pane are allowed to remain open but furniture show rooms and furniture workshops are not allowed to open.
