CWG 2022: Naveen Congratulates Murali Sreeshankar on Winning Historic Silver Medal in Long Jump

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Murali Sreeshankar on winning historic silver medal in the men’s long jump competition at the Commonwealth Games at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

“Congratulate Murali Sreeshankar on winning historic Silver medal in Long Jump at Birmingham CG22 with a jump of 8.08m. It is first ever medal for India in Men’s Long Jump in CommonwealthGames. May he soar higher and bring glory for the nation. Wish him all the very best”, the CM tweeted.


This is India’s first silver medal in men’s long jump at the Commonwealth Games and second medal in this discipline after Suresh Babu won bronze in Edmonton, Canada in 1978.

The last Indian to win a long jump medal at the Commonwealth Games was Anju Bobby George who won the women’s long jump bronze medal in 2002.

Muhammad Anees Yahiya, the other Indian in the men’s long jump final finished fifth with a best effort of 7.97 metres.
