Bhubaneswar: At least nine people including a pregnant woman have lost their lives due to food poisoning and outbreak of diarrhea in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, as per reports.
The situation in Kanibaru and Sindhibali villages of Durgapanga panchayat under Kotgarh block of the district remains grim. Several people have been taken ill in the last four days following the waterborne disease outbreak.
The persons have developed symptoms of diarrhea and food poisoning after attending a funeral feast four days back. A three-month pregnant woman of Kanibaru village succumbed to her illness last Monday night. Her husband had died of same symptoms two days before. So far, nine persons have succumbed to the diarrhea, as per reports. However, there is no official confirmation about the casualties.
While some of the affected people are undergoing treatment at the Kotgarh Community Health Center and several villagers in Kanibaru and Sindhibali have reportedly left their homes for other places, reports added.
Meanwhile, a team of doctors from Durgapanga CHC rushed to the affected villages to assess the situation.
