Bhubaneswar: Chain pulling in trains to stop a moving train without any valid reason is a legal offence. The person who does so may be fined and may have to go to jail. As per the Indian Railways Act, chain pulling without valid major reason is an offence and attracts a jail term of three months or a fine up to Rs 1,000.
After repeated awareness and imposing fine, passengers are often not aware of the laws related to this. This may endanger life.
Chain pulling in train at the mid section happens due to illegal vending and avoiding Security personnel and Ticket Checking Staff. This delays the running status of the trains causing trouble to other passengers. Railways also lose revenue and this may proceed to derailment and threat of life and property.
East Coast Railway has geared up its machinery to prevent Chain Pulling in Trains without any valid reason. Chain Pulling without valid reason during train journey is strictly prohibited. East Coast Railway has advised all its three Divisions, i.e. Khurda Road, Sambalpur & Waltair to launch a Special Safety Drive to keep a strict vigil on Chain pulling in trains for the safety of the passengers. In view of the above, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Civil Defence Wings and other Railway officials of East Coast Railway participated in the drive to aware passengers.
In view of the above, East Coast Railway has taken a massive drive to alert passengers not to pull the chain without any valid reason and urged co-passengers to oppose who are pulling the chain without valid reason.
Passengers have also advised to inform to the train captain, TTE, RPF’s train escort, coach attendant and any other railway staff in case of a small emergency without pulling the chain.
