Eminent Odissi Dancer Minati Mishra Dies at 91

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odissi dancer Padma Shri Minati Mishra passed away in Switzerland on Monday at 91.

Minati Mishra was born to Basanta Kumar Das in 1929 in Cuttack. She started learning dance and music at an early age, under the Ajit Ghosh and Banabihari Maity and Odissi from Kabichandra Kalicharan Patnayak, a known Odissi dancer.

In 1954, Mishra joined Kalakshetra of Rukmini Devi Arundale, on a scholarship from the Government of Odisha, and learned Bharatanatyam for one year under Kutty Sarada and Peria Sarada.
