Mumbai: Legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital here on Sunday. She was 92.
Mangeshkar was put on a ventilator at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai after her health condition deteriorated.
The veteran singer was admitted to the hospital earlier last month after testing positive for COVID-19. She was also being treated for pneumonia. She recovered from COVID-19 and pneumonia on January 30. However, her health condition has deteriorated again and was put on ventilator.
Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar was widely considered as one of the greatest and most respected playback singers in India. She had recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and had sung songs in over thirty-six Indian languages and foreign languages.
Lata Mangeshkar had won several awards and honours, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
