Puri: The Puri district administration has resumed the eviction drive around the Srimandir which has been halted in view of the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
The administration is removing the structures within the 75 meters radius of the temple boundary wall for the Srimandira Parikarama Yojana or Jagannath temple corridor plan.
As per the reports, the eviction drive resumed at the Baseli Sahi area in presence of police and district administration officials. Three private buildings have been demolished with approval of the owners for the beautification of the 12th century shrine.
Notably, the Odisha Legislative Assembly, in February this year, had unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Srimandir Parikrama Yojana (Jagannath temple corridor plan) to be implemented by the State government at an estimated cost of Rs 3,200 crore within the next couple of years.
