Berhampur: The Berhampur Municipal Corporation has become the first urban body in the state to achieve ISO standards for all of its Urban Primary Health Centers. All the seven UPHCs got the ISO 9001-2015 certification for Quality Management Systems.
With this the Municipal administration has achieved an important milestone in delivery of urban health services.
The seven urban primary hospitals i.e., Ambapua, Aga Sahi, Baikuntha Nagar, Goods Shed Road, Khodasinghi, Uttaramukhi and Aska Road have received the distinction after the authorities made drastic improvements in the infrastructure and facilities available in them. With an aim to provide world class services, BeMC made efforts to improve cleanliness, appointment of Doctors, availability of quality medicines and all the required infrastructure was overhauled.
Catering to more than 80 to 100 patients daily, each of the UPHCs have become the focal point of the Municipal administration. The popularity of the hospitals for better health facilities has come as a relief to the MKCG and City Hospitals in Berhampur as nearly seven hundred patients are being diverted to the municipal hospitals daily thereby reducing the pressure on the two bigger hospitals.
Earlier, three of the Urban Primary Health Centers of Berhampur had received the prestigious NAQS certification by the Government of India under National Health Mission. According to BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore, “the efforts for getting the ISO certifications started a month ago, but the process to streamline all the services in the hospitals is a continuous one. With the active participation of the District administration, we could improve the quality of services. There has been a continuous improvement in patient footfalls. This could be achieved due to the active involvement of all.”
According to Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange, “the district administration is giving importance to providing better health facilities to all. In the coming days our focus will be to further improve the facilities at the UPHs so that the citizens choose them as their first choice for treatment.”
