Ganjam Admin Launches “No Bag Day” in Schools

Berhampur: Giving emphasize on co-curricular activities to enrich various skills of the students, the Ganjam district administration today launched the ‘No Bag Day’ programme for the students. 

Under the initiative, the students of government-run primary and upper primary schools have been freed from carrying school bags on every Saturday.

As part of No School Bag Day, the schools will organize a host of co-curricular activities on Saturday, such as mass drill, yoga, essay and debate competitions, drawing, story-telling, listening and book reading, moral and value education, to broaden horizons of students.

Besides, the students will be sensitized on the some of the initiatives taken by the district administration like Mo Gelha Jhia , Nirbhaya Kadhi and Mo Sachetan against child marriage, black magic and superstition.

Talking about the student-friendly programme, Ganjam district Collector Vijay Amrut Kulange said that education is not just a transmission of actual knowledge, it demands more than the chalk and talk method in order to enrich both teaching and learning process.

The programme has been introduced in some selected primary and upper schools having good infrastructure and best resources. It will be implemented in other schools gradually, he said.

The programme has received an overwhelming response from the students, teachers and parents in all blocks, informed district education officer Amulya Kumar Pradhan.

He further said that his department will work as per the instructions of the Collector to make the initiative successful.

“The ‘No Bag Day’ programme will go a long way in creating a joyful learning environment in schools”, said a primary school teacher in Kukudakhandi block in the district.

Through this initiative, the government schools in the district can now provide better platforms to students for personality development, says a resident of Berhampur.
