Berhampur: With the number of coronavirus cases in Ganjam district rising considerably in the last few days, a need has arisen to take stringent steps. The district, which saw the largest number of migrants return from other states, has recorded nearly seven hundred positive cases and the numbers are likely to increase further with many more people returning back.
The district administration which has taken every possible step to contain the spread of the coronavirus now needs to be more stringent and fight the virus with the help of the people. As more and more migrants from Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka return back to their native in Ganjam district, there is a need to restrict their movement and take precautionary steps to break the chain. Even people from various forums and common men are saying that the administration now needs to reverse the decision and clamp total lockdown in the district to contain the spread of the virus.
According to Surjya Narayana Khadenga, a resident of Digapahandi, “people are not obeying social distancing norms in villages. They need to be acted tough. The administration should impose total lockdown in villages and towns to restrict the gathering of people especially keeping in view the festive days.
“It’s time to act tough. Human lives are more precious than anything else. Total shutdown is the only way to prevent the spread of this virus”, expressed Nityananda Mohanty, a resident of Berhampur.
The same view is reciprocated by Kanhu Charan Bisoyi of Aska, who says the only way to keep people away is to implement total lockdown with only two hours of relaxation of shopping. Essential services should be allowed during the lockdown period. The stringent steps need to be taken till the curve flattens in the district and the return of migrants takes a break.
