Berhampur: Six persons were arrested in Odisha’s Ganjam district in connection with death of a leopard in Buguda forest area.
As per reports, the forest department officials held the persons on charges of laying a trap to capture wild boars in Naguda-Manitara area under Buguda forest range in Ganjam district, which led to the death of a leopard after the animal was stuck in the trap.
The leopard died on January 28.
A boar trap was laid inside Badapathar forest under Buguda forest range by the poachers. However, the leopard accidentally fell into the trap and later died after being rescued.
The key accused and five others were arrested during a surprise raid last night with the help of local police, according to reports.
Earlier, the State Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) had ordered a probe into the incident.
