Chatrapur: With an aim to encourage women voters’ participation in the ensuing Panchayat elections, the Ganjam administration has decided to set up a total of 22 all-women polling booths, known as pink booths, one each in every block of the district.
In line with it, a pink booth has been identified in Chatrapur block.
According to Chatrapur Panchayat Samiti Office, the all-women polling booth in the block will be UPS Kanamana in Ward No 7 of Kanamana village under Kanamana GP.
The polling station will be entirely managed by women. The presiding officers, first and second polling officers and the security personnel at the booth will all be women.
Special arrangements will be made at this booth for the convenience of the voters, including special care for pregnant women, Persons with Disabilities (PwD voters), among others.
The primary objective behind the introduction of pink booth is to encourage participation of women voters in the election, said Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.
The three-tier Panchayat elections will be conducted in the district in five phases on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 to elect 69 zilla parishad members, 503 sarapanchs and same number of samiti members and 7099 ward members.
