Ganjam: Youth Sets Himself Fire at Golanthara PS, Succumbs to Injuries ; Police Appeals People Desist from Such Act

Berhampur/Bhubaneswar: A youth from Odisha’s district ended his life after succumbed to burn injuries.

The youth from Randh area in Rangeilunda block set himself on fire outside the main entrance gate of Golanthara PS and barged inside the police station building.

He was immediately shifted to MKCG Medical college and hospital. Later on, the referral of the treating physician he was taken to SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar where he succumbed to his injuries, the police said.

The man tried to get hold of a SI inside the PS building. Other officers and staffs present there intervened immediately and doused the fire with the help of the available material. It is to mention that the youth had visited the PS in the evening and orally complained the IIC that his life is in threat. He was repeatedly asked to submit a written report including those persons who has threatened him. He left the PS thereafter. After sometime he barged inside the PS building after setting himself on fire. He was immediately shifted to MKCG Medical college and hospital. Later on, the referral of the treating physician he was taken to SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar where he succumbed to his injuries.

A case has been registered at Golanthara PS. Scientific team has visited the spot and collected physical evidence from the spot. A team including Addl. SP (IUCAW) Aseem Panda, SDPO(Sadar) S.S Mahapatra is looking into the various aspects that let to this unfortunate incident. CCTV of the PS has been preserved and necessary steps are being taken to ascertain the causes that trigged him to do such an act, the Berhampur Police said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said that setting oneself to fire is an act of suicide which is illegal.

Berhampur police request the public to desist from such acts, he said.
