Gujarat Reduces Fines Imposed Under New MV Act; Rs 500 for No Helmet, Rs 2000 for No Licence

Gandhinagar:  The Gujarat Government today announced reduction in fine amounts for violating traffic rules, stipulated in the new Motor Vehicle Act implemented recently.

Now the penalty for driving without a helmet has been reduced to Rs 500 from Rs 1,000, as stipulated in the new Act.  Similar is the case with driving a four-wheeler without wearing a seat-belt.

The penalty for driving without a licence has been fixed at Rs 2,000 for two-wheelers and Rs 3,000 for four-wheelers, while the new Act stipulated a fine of hefty Rs 5,000 for the same violation.

Announcing it, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the fines laid down in the new act were the maximum suggested and his government had reduced them after detailed deliberations.

Notably, the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019 was passed by Parliament in July and its steep fines were to come into effect from September 1.
