Ahmedabad: The bypoll results for the 8 seats in Gujarat will be announced today. The counting of votes began at 8 am. As per the latest count, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained leads in seven out of the eight Assembly seats in Gujarat and Congress is ahead in Morbi seat.
The by-elections to these eight seats were, in fact, necessitated after the sitting Congress MLAs resigned ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls held in June this year. Five of them later joined the BJP and the ruling party fielded them from the same seats in the bypolls. As many as 81 candidates contested the bypolls across the eight seats – Abdasa, Karjan, Morbi, Gadhada, Dhari, Limbdi, Kaprada and Dang. A total of 60.75 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the bypolls held in these eight assembly seats on November 3.
The exit polls forecast that BJP party is expected to win six to seven seats out of eight in Gujarat
