Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud Dam authorities will open another 14 sluice gates in a phased manner to better manage the flood waters of the Mahanadi River.
As the water inflow to the Dam is increasing due to heavy rains in the upstream areas of Chhattisgarh, it has become necessary to open more gates. While five of the fourteen gates will be opened immediately, nine will be opened later in the day. The water will be discharged through forty gates. The decision has been taken after discussions with the technical team and experts.
The water level at Hirakud Dam at 3 pm today stood at 626.58 feet. While the inflow into the Dam stood at 7 lakh 70 thousand Cusecs, the out flow stood at 4 lakh 52 thousand Cusecs.
