Sambalpur: Three more sluice gates of Hirakud dam have been opened to discharge excess water from the reservoir.
The dam authorities opened the gates on Saturday in view of the rise in the water level of the reservoir due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area.
The water level of Hirakud dam stood at 629.65 feet against the full capacity of 630 feet, while the average inflow was around 1,16,088 cusec.
With the opening of three more gates, the excess water is being released through 10 gates including seven in the left and three others in the right side.
