IANS-CVoter National Mood Tracker: Majority of Indians want Satyendar Jain to resign as minister

New Delhi: The bail plea of Satyendar Jain, Health Minister in the Delhi Government has been rejected by a Delhi court.

Jain was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on May 30 in a money laundering case. Jain is in judicial custody since his arrest over alleged hawala transactions with a Kolkata-based firm in 2015-16. The ED had attached Jain’s properties worth Rs 4.81 crore of the family and companies “beneficially owned and controlled” in connection with a money-laundering investigation.

Cvoter-IndiaTracker conducted a countrywide survey on behalf of IANS to know public opinion about Jain’s continuance in the Kejriwal government in the wake of rejection of his bail plea in the case.

During the survey, while 64 per cent of respondents opined that Jain should resign from post of minister in the Delhi Government, 36 per cent opposed this sentiment.

Interestingly, both the NDA and opposition voters opined on similar lines on the issue. As per the survey data, while 73 per cent of NDA supporters spoke in favour of resignation of Jain from the Delhi Cabinet, 57 per cent of opposition voters echoed similar views.

Similarly, during the survey majority of urban and rural voters opined in favour of Jain moving out of the Delhi government. As per the survey data, 70 per cent of urban respondents and 60 per cent of the respondents from rural areas said that they want Jain to resign from the Delhi government.

During the survey, the majority of respondents from different age groups also shared similar views about Jain’s resignation. As per the survey data, while 78 per cent of respondents above 55 years of age want Jain to resign, 60 per cent of those in the age group of 18-24 year shared the sentiment. Similarly, the majority of respondents between 25 to 54 years also demanded Jain’s resignation.
