IMD Issues Red Warning to 10 Districts, No Flood Situation in State, Says WR Chief Engineer

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday evening issued a red alert warning to as many as 10 districts and forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in many places in Odisha in the next 24 hours.

In the latest weather bulleting , the IMD said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places is very likely to occur over the districts of Jagatsingpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Cuttack and Angul.”

The IMD further warned that water logging and flash floods in some places may be witnessed due to the heavy rains.

It also warned that possible damage to informal roads and katcha houses may take place as a result of rains. The heavy rains may cause landslides in hilly areas, the IMD bulletin said.
Similarly, the IMD has issued orange warning to 11 districts including Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri, Khurda, Malkangiri,Bolangir,Sonepur and Koraput and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places.

Meanwhile, Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department Jyotirmaya Rath today said that there is no flood situation in any river in Odisha, except in river Jalaka where flash floods have been reported.

Rath further said that the Water Resources Department is fully prepared to tackle any situation that arises due to heavy rains.
