New Delhi: In the wake of increasing number of COVID-19 cases across the country, the Central Government is likely to extend the lockdown by two more weeks after May 31 in order to prevent the spread of the virus, according to media reports.
In the fifth phase of lockdown which may remain in force till June 15, the Centre may give more relaxations to the States.
As per reports, the Government will focus on 11 cities that account for nearly 70 per cent of the coronavirus cases.
The cities are Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune, Thane, Jaipur, Surat and Indore.
The Centre may allow the States to take a decision regarding the opening of the religious places and gymnasiums during the lockdown 5.0. However, restrictions will be imposed on congregation at religious places, reports added.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 cases surged to 1,51,767 in the country, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health.
