New Delhi: India has registered the first seven cases of mutant Coronavirus strain as six returnees from the United Kingdom tested positive.
The Union Health Ministry said that the mutated UK strain was found in samples in NIMHANS, Bengaluru, in CCMB, Hyderabad and one in NIV, Pune.
The persons have been isolated in designated health care facilities and their close contacts have also been put under quarantine, the Health Ministry said.
Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travellers, family contacts, and others, it said while adding that the situation is under careful watch and regular advice is being provided to the states for enhanced surveillance, containment, testing and dispatch of samples to INSACOG labs.
