Bhubaneswar: The inter-state cooperation is essential for ensuring free, fair and peaceful elections, said Odisha DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi.
The Odisha DGP has held meeting with the DGPs of neighbouring states to ensure cooperation for the ensuring simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state.
The meeting focused on check illegal transportation of narcotics, money and arms during the elections, according to reports.
Odisha shares its borders with West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.
Sarangi said that cooperation with the neighbouring states is essential in any election.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has instructed to hold talks with bordering states to intensify patrolling to check illegal transportation of firearms, cash, liquor and other materials along with strengthening anti-Naxal operations, he added.
Odisha Police has already set up border check posts in all border districts since January first week and adequate force has been deployed in the posts, the top cop said.
