International Literacy Day is observed on September 8 to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.
8 September was declared International Literacy Day by UNESCO on 26 October 1966 at 14th session of UNESCO’s General conference.
International Literacy Day 2019 will focus on ‘Literacy and Multilingualism.’ Despite progress made, literacy challenges persist, distributed unevenly across countries and populations.
