Dubai: A desperate Chennai Super Kings dished out an all-round performance to earn a much-needed win as they stay afloat in the race for the IPL Play-offs with a 20-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Tuesday.
Batting first Chennai set a target of 168 for SRH, chasing which the Sunrisers Hyderabad were reduced to 147 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.
SRH did not start their run chase as they planned after losing 2 early wickets in the powerplay of captain David Warner (9 off 13 balls) and Manish Pandey (4 off 3 balls). Kane Williamson stayed at the crease for a long time carrying the Hyderabad innings before getting out on 57 runs in just 39 balls. A late cameo by Rashid Khan of 14 runs in 8 balls gave SRH fans a glimmer of hope however he was hit-wicket via the bowling of Shradul Thakur.
CSK bowlers did a commendable job with ball in hand while defending their total. Dwayne Bravo and Karn Sharma picked up 2 wickets each conceding 25 runs and 37 runs respectively. There was a wicket each for Jadeja, Sam Curran and Shradul Thakur.
Earlier, an 81-run stand between Ambati Rayudu (41) and Shane Watson (42), followed by a 10-ball 25 from Jadeja late in the innings, helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) score 167/6 wickets.
