Sharjah: Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 18 runs in yet another high scoring match of Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) at Sharjah Cricket ground on Saturday.
In the 16th match of IPL 2020, KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and elected to bowl first against Delhi Capitals (DC). Batting first, Delhi Capitals put up 228/4 — the highest total of the IPL 2020 season so far. Prithvi Shaw’s 66 was the most decisive contribution in the first half of the innings. However, it was in the last 10 overs — with Shreyas Iyer (88 not out off 38 balls) hitting top gear that DC added 139 runs, crossing the mark for the highest total of the season. With all KKR bowlers being hit for runs, Andre Russell’s figures of 2/29 stood out.
KKR’s Nitish Rana led the early charge scoring 58 runs off 35 balls and Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi led the charge late on scoring 44 runs off 18 balls and 36 runs off 16 balls respectively smashing 8 sixes combined between the pair of them. Their effort was in vain as South-African international Nortje picked up 3 wickets for Delhi helping them to defend their total.
This victory put the Delhi Capitals on the top of the table temporarily and they have been one of the better teams so far this season.
