Jerusalem: Israel on Wednesday decided to beef up protection measures for the elders while avoiding reimposing restrictions on the general public amid a new wave of Covid-19 infections.
The announcement by Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s office came after a consultation meeting with Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz and senior health officials following an increasing number of new Covid-19 infections were registered since May, Xinhua news agency reported.
“At this stage, it was decided to strengthen the protection system for the elderly population and nursing homes,” the statement read.
“Monitoring and testing of samples from sewer systems (to monitor the virus) will continue, as will the activities of the information collection system,” it added.
The number of new coronavirus cases in Israel reached 3,731 on Monday, the highest since April 25, prompting the Health Ministry to advise at-risk populations to resume wearing masks.
