Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government’s Jaga Mission, which is the world’s largest slum titling and upgradation initiative, has won the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum Innovation Awards 2021.
The inclusive initiative to give slum dwellers with land tenure security and better living habitats has been awarded from among 50 programmes in Asia Pacific region.
It has been nominated for Innovation in Public Policy at the Asia-Pacific Housing Forum Innovation Awards 2021.
The Jaga Mission continues to be a torchbearer and act as a model public policy to bring about lasting happiness in the lives of the marginalised. It recognises informal settlements and slum dwellers as indispensable part of city fabric, empowering millions of people, said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik while congratulating the Housing & Urban Development Department for the award.
Launched in May 2018, Jaga Mission had won the bronze at the 2019 World Habitat Awards, which recognises innovative, outstanding and revolutionary ideas, projects, and programmes from across the world.
Over 175,000 slum families have been provided with land tenure security and 550 slums in 28 cities have been transformed into liveable habitats in Odisha.
The project is being executed by the State Government in collaboration with reputed philanthropic organisations like Tata Trusts and Norman Foster Foundation.
