James Bond Actor Sir Sean Connery Passes Away at 90

London: Legendary Scottish actor Sir Thomas Sean Connery, who dominated the silver screen for over four decades, passed away at the age of 90, according to the media reports.

Connery, widely known for playing fictional spy James Bond in seven films, had won several awards, including an Oscar, three Golden Globes and two Bafta awards.

Connery will be remembered first as British agent 007, the character created by novelist Ian Fleming and immortalized by Connery in films starting with Dr. No in 1962.

Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as “The Greatest Living Scot” and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as “Scotland’s Greatest Living National Treasure”. He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989 and the “Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999.

He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama.

He was raised in near poverty in the slums of Edinburgh and worked as a coffin polisher, milkman and lifeguard before his bodybuilding hobby helped launch an acting career that made him one of the world’s biggest stars.
