Mumbai: Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer ‘Kabir Singh’ received negative reviews with criticism directed at it for glamorising misogyny and toxic masculinity. The film also landed in trouble for allegedly showing doctors in bad light.
Despite this, Kabir Singh, a Hindi remake of Telugu film Arjun Reddy, is taking the box office by storm. It recorded the highest opening day collection for a Shahid Kapoor film and grossed over Rs 100 crore within five days of its release.
Notably, Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed movie was also leaked by piracy website TamilRockers, but it did not impact the business much and has emerged as the fourth biggest Hindi opener at the domestic box office this year.
Kabir Singh was released on June 21 worldwide on 3,616 screens including 3123 screens in India. It focuses on the title character, an alcoholic surgeon who goes on a self-destructive path after his girlfriend is forced to marry someone else.
