Kandhamal: Phiringia Police Station Set on Fire by Mob

Phulbani: In an unprecedented incident, the mob set the Phiringia police station in Kandhamal district on fire alleging the involvement of police station in ganja smuggling.

The police officers were also beaten up by the irate locals, as per reports.

The residents of the area had earlier demanded action against the IIC and other police officials of Phiringia PS , alleging that they were involved in ganja peddling. Since no action was taken, the angry mob first blocked the Phulbani-Baliguda road on Saturday morning. Later in the afternoon, they set the police station on fire, as per reports.

Meanwhile, IGP (Southern Range) Satyabrata Bhoi said that the situation is now under control. Phulbani SP has reached the spot. Among the agitators was the cannabis mafia. Strict action will be taken against the culprits, he added.
