Karthik Subbaraj forays into Malayalam cinema with ‘Attention Please’

Chennai:  Well-known Tamil film director and producer Karthik Subbaraj on Saturday announced that his production firm Stone Bench Films had forayed into the Malayalam film industry with director Jithin Isaac Thomas’s upcoming film ‘Attention Please’.

Taking to Twitter, Karthik Subbaraj, who has directed several critically acclaimed superhit films, including the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer ‘Pizza’, Siddhartha-starrer ‘Jigarthanda’ and the superstar Rajinikanth-starrer, ‘Petta’ said: “We are elated to announce our foray into the Malayalam Industry with ‘Attention Please’ made by the talented Jithin Thomas and team. Produced by Kaarthekeyens and releasing in theatres on Aug 26.”

The popular director also shared the link to the film’s trailer which showed that the film will be not only hard-hitting but is also likely to create awareness on societal problems.

The trailer begins with a person, who is looking to make a film, narrates the story of his film to those around him. He talks about a mother who brings up her son with great difficulty after the demise of her husband. When the son completes his twelfth standard exams and comes out with flying colours, the mother and the son decide to celebrate the occasion by going to a beach.

At the beach, some people observe the mother and the son and start hitting the son, demanding to know their relationship. The mother says that the boy is her son but then, those indulging in moral policing are not in a mood to listen and make a garland of slippers for both mother and son. The boy responds angrily and is beaten with a rod.

The character narrating the story ends it saying: “When the son awakens, all that he can see in front of him is the sea.”

The hard-hitting trailer seems to have raised expectations from the film, which stars Vishnu Govind, Sreejith B, Anand Manmadhan, Jobin Paul, Jicky Paul and Athira Kallingal among others. The film has music by Arun Vijai and cinematography by Himal Mohan.
